Thursday:
Day trip to Skagway/Alaska
We are still anchored at our campground in Whitehorse,Canada.  We drove about a hundred miles for a day trip to Skagway, Alaska!  We could see the grandeur of the scenery, even through the gray rain.  We had a little snag at the border crossing since I had packed some grapes for a snack...they confiscated them..since I couldn't recall the country of their origin.  Super nice border guard though...kind of chatty...I told Stan he probably was happy to have our grapes for lunch...ha.

Skagway (population 920) was packed with tourists...several cruise ships were docked there and their well know tourist train was doing it's share too.  Factor in the tour buses that were coming in non stop the whole time we were there and you can imagine how crowded the streets were in this small mountain town.

Stan took a nice picture of a bear right by our car on the drive in today.  The bear was too busy eating along the roadway to react to the cars stopped right by him.  We saw another one on the way home...fewer than normal but close enough to...well...just close enough!  As I mentioned above, the drive was grandeous...and coupled with a visit to the historical gold rush town of Skagway, it all made for an exciting and memorable day out...and to top it off...we were able to experience Alaska for the first time!!!  Now we are back in the Yukon again for a while.
