Tuesday:
Today we decided to visit the University of Alaska campus, located here in Fairbanks...and we also had lunch at the university cafeteria...an interesting change of pace. Otherwise, we just drove around and enjoyed seeing the campus, and stopped to take some photos here and there.
A little serendipity, we followed road signs to a beautiful spacious gift shop celebrating the legacy of (the now deceased Iditarod champion) Susan Butcher. At this gift shop, they were prepping for photo ops with champion bred husky pups as the tourists disembarked for lunch and shopping. As fast as they would load the sled with these puppies, they scrambled out. I couldn't resist a snap shot of this all, which explains my main photo.
Next, Stan enjoyed a 'car snooze' while I went inside an art gallery in downtown Fairbanks. I was endeared to the 1930s stone building (which I thought looked like something out of the movie, Snow White). While sorting through some cards there, one particularly caught my eye, printed from an oil painting by Skagway artist...Peter Lucchetti. The art work is titled "Polar Swimmer".
We are having mid to upper 70s temps....and sunny with a gentle breeze...ahhh.
Photos as usual on right, under Alaska.
