Discovery Yukon Lodgings/Beaver Creek/Yukon/Canada
Well, we bid Alaska goodbye today! It was an amazing place and we were privileged to witness so many forms of wild life and vistas....there really aren't words or photos to do it justice in my opinion.
Again, the border guard was kind and it was a painless crossing. In fact, officially, you aren't allowed certain raw foods into Canada, potatoes being one of them. We had purchased some really good (and expensive) Alaskan grown potatoes and I didn't want to throw them away. We remembered we had them at the last minute, so I cooked about 4 pounds of them at the rest stop after lunch in order to save them....and the Crossing Guard never questioned us about potatoes or raw foods. Needless to say...we'll be pressed to eat lots of potatoes for a while! Unfortunately one couple's car was being searched in detail just before us...not a good feeling.
Even though our Alaska visit has ended, we still have thousands of miles to go before we get back to the Midwest. We expect to be traveling through new portions of Canada and to sight see our way through some northern states we haven't seen before. Also, if you remember, our plans to visit Ryan (our youngest son) had been postponed when we were in Washington State. He had left Seattle the month before we arrived and was in process of a career move to Chicago. Now we are looking forward to seeing him later on, when we come through Illinois this fall.
