Tuesday:
Stoney Creek RV Park/Seward/Alaska
Well, Stan and I finally got our ducks in order and headed out along the Seward Highway this morning.  We had heard good things about an animal refuge that was on our pathway, so we stopped to visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.   This group is doing a great job of rescuing animals and taking care of them in an environmentally green atmosphere.  This was a very enjoyable stop....especially the bears.  Also this center is working at bringing back the wood bison, which were all but extinct!

Our second stop was to unhook the Jeep, leaving the RV at the Portage Glacier/Whittier Visitors Center and head out to Whittier.  The only access into Whittier is a shared tunnel used part time by a train, so they monitor the automotive traffic, allowing it through….one way at a time…every so often.  They charge for the use of the tunnel too.  It takes about 5 minutes to drive it, since the speed is kept strictly to 25 mph.   Population of Wittier is 200 people.  It’s a tourist town full of shops and restaurants, so what’s not to love?  They have a good sized marina too.  It was a cold rainy day, so walking the shops wasn’t interesting to us.  We did, however, enjoy a wonderful Chinese Buffet there…Stan’s birthday choice.
And now I want to wish Stan a very happy 67th birthday!!!  You’re a great husband and father and we are all  proud of you and love you lots!!!
Photos of our day are found under Alaska on right.
