Friday:
Took The Coaster to San Diego
Today was rainy, windy and cold!  There were people walking around in  winter coats and scarves!

We found out yesterday that we enjoy riding the train for a change...so today we bought two round trip tickets and boarded The Coaster (which follows the coastline for about an hour) to San Diego.  This was a more scenic ride than yesterday.  At times we were right by the ocean and other times we were twisting among the hills.

Having no plan, we approached the train station's Information Window and asked where a good restaurant would be.  She directed us to Marion's Fish House at Seaside Village...only a few blocks away.  We took her advice and Stan enjoyed Clam Chowder in a Bread Bowl and I had a Salmon Taco and slaw...both very good.

Over lunch, we decided to visit Old Town Historical Village next, so we headed back to the station to catch the next train over.  While waiting, we were entertained inside the station by a tourist savvy pigeon that had wandered in and challenged a little boy to a game of tag...I'm not sure who won...the game was still going on when we boarded.   photo below

The Coaster stop was just across the street from Old Town...how convenient was that!  The photos below give a little flavor of the place.  We slipped from building to building between showers.  Would have been better on a sunny day, but still a charming afternoon in spite of the weather.

We met Greg and Anja at Mimis Restaurant in Carlsbad for a little French fare.  It was warm and cozy...all our meals were good..and we had the best waitress ever...we lingered there to chat for a while...then headed home to snuggle in after a rather damp and cold day.
