Thursday:
Sprinter/Train Ride to Escondido:
We're staying practically across the street from the Sprinter Depot.  The Sprinter is one of this area's inter-city train systems.  We decided to ride it all the way to the end, to Escondido, for lunch, which we thought would be a fun little adventure today.  So we bought our one dollar ticket! and took a seat.  True, there were a lot of stops between here and there...so it took a little over half an hour to get to our destination (about 15 miles inland) but we had all day...that old song Feeling Grovey kept running through my head.

We got off the train, walked a few blocks and found this little Italian Bistro, which seemed to be run by a Mom and her three teenage sons...she cooked and they interacted with the customers.  They took orders and manned the cash register while pans clanked, steam rolled and wonderful garlic aromas wafted from her little kitchen, which was barely hidden behind the counter.  There were about 8 tables in there, packed tight, so it was a lesson in togetherness.  The gentleman next to us was close enough to read Stan's cap and inquired about the name on it.  Our teen waiter sported a tattoo that read "Jeremiah 29:13".  This beats the McD's assembly line food anyday, if you ask me.

Later on, we might drive over to a little organic produce store close by and refresh our food supply.  We're going to try to get past the Cold Stone Creamery and the donut shop without stopping.  The weather is sunny and cool...slightly breezy....not quite beach weather, but very relaxing for walks and touring.  Tomorrow, they predict rain!  In the San Diego area!!  It really does happen!!!
