Mt. Rushmore National Park/ South DakotaDrove the Wildlife Loop Road /Custer State Park/South Dakota
Ft. Hayes Chuck wagon Supper and Cowboy Music Show/Rapid City/South Dakota
As you can see, we had a full day. My impression of Mt. Rushmore was that it was very well done and certainly patriotic….I felt it was classical Americana. It was packed with tourists. We did the mile plus loop walk descending to the sculptor’s studio. We had another nice weather day to be outside to see all this.
People had told us about the Wildlife Loop Road in Custer State Park, so we drove that, which took about two hours. It had a significant number of buffalo, many of which were found (today) hanging out near the entrance of the park. In addition to the buffalo, we spotted a fox and a Prong Horn Sheep, wild donkeys and a few deer.
We had a night out tonight….a chuck wagon supper with a cowboy band. The meal was tasty ‘cowboy fare’ and the entertainment was hearty western music plus fun and games for the kids and the kid in all of us. It was a nice change of pace for Stan and me and gave us yet another chance to enjoy our nation’s cowboy culture.
