Sunday:
Whitehorse Pentecostal Assemblies Church
Churches are difficult to locate in these remote areas, even using our GPS, that, to be honest, after driving around for a while and not locating the one we had picked out, this was one we drove past that was open. It wasn’t time for the main service but we were invited to sit in on their Sunday School teaching. It turned out to be a great choice and in addition, we met a member of their church that grew up in Celina, Ohio, within 30 miles of our home. He knew exactly where our Village of New Knoxville (1000 people) was located!
After traveling on the Klondike Highway for about 100 miles today, we are now located in Carmacks RV Park, Carmacks, Yukon. It is a sparse graveled campground, no TV and one hour of wi fi, but that’s the norm from here on out I suspect, unless we come to a city. One is always glad to see a settlement in these remote places though, and someone has to live here and man them, so we’re not complaining.
Actually, we are thankful to be this far along in our journey. Word is that a day or so behind us a road washed out after all that rain…they are in process of building a bridge as a ‘repair’ of the roadway. This will mean about a week delay at best for all those stuck behind this damaged area. This is the beginning of Yukon and Alaska’s peak tourist season, so I know they must be hustling to mend this issue as soon as possible. I imagine it was a challenge for some of those larger RVs and larger work trucks to even get turned around on the damaged stretch of highway! So grateful to be on this side of that issue...thank you Lord!
My photos are often taken (with RV in motion) through a very dusty and bug smeared windshield...in case you were wondering why all the spots and dots. Daily cleaning wouldn't make any difference...it's just part of the Canadian/Alaskan experience.
