Thursday:
Our next "planned" destination was Seward, but yesterday we saw on their regional news that this town of approximately 3000 people was hosting The Mount Marathon, which is a race that coincides with Independence Day and this all drew in about 40,000 visitors! We rethought our timing and decided to aim at Cooper's Landing, which is a small town located on the way, and is about 40 miles from Seward. We'll hold up here and enjoy this area for a few days to allow the weekend stragglers to clear out of Seward. On arrival we found what we had suspected...no vacancy at Cooper's RV Campground. Plan B....they...being typical Alaskans.....encouraged us to dry camp for a night at a beautiful scenic pull over just around the corner with the intent of pulling in tomorrow....where we now have a reservation!
Sooo....here we are...dry camping for free at an amazing scenic view "in holding pattern"....and waiting for a landing tomorrow.
By the way...we saw so many eagles today....one caught a rabbit in the grass by the road and it rose in front of us..poor little.bunny grasped in one tallon.... while the eagle struggled to clear the path of our moving RV! Such a place....
